The parliamentary process of the Lega-Fratelli d’Italia bill is going ahead, which aims to make the surreptitious uterus a universal crime. Today the go-ahead from the Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies arrived and Matteo Salvini gave the news on Twitter. Surrogacy, explains the secretary of the League and Minister of Infrastructure, would therefore become a crime “which can be prosecuted even if committed abroad. It was our battle and we are carrying it forward: now the next step in the courtroom for the definitive go-ahead”.
The Minister for the Family Eugenia Roccella also spoke about the uterus for rent today, during the question time in the Chamber. “The Government’s position on the matter, in compliance with the highest state jurisdictions, is clear and absolutely condemns any form of surrogacy, as a form of commercialization of parenthood, harmful to women’s dignity and children’s rights”.
From the ranks of the Brothers of Italy it is the undersecretary of Justice, Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove, who explains the proposed law on surrogacy as a universal crime which has received the ok from the commission. “The text places Italy at the forefront in contrasting an inhuman practice that commodifies women’s bodies and reduces children to objects. Discouraging procreative tourism that mortifies women’s bodies is a battle of civilization”.
