Ute Schwiegershausen elected as the new chairman of the NDR Broadcasting Council

Hamburg (ots) – Ute Schwiegershausen (60) from Lower Saxony is the new chairwoman of the NDR Broadcasting Council. The committee elected her to succeed Anke Schwitzer.

According to the NDR State Treaty, the chairmanship changes every 15 months in the order Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, in this case on March 1, 2021. Because of the corona pandemic, the broadcasting council met on February 5, 2021 as a video conference instead, the vote took place in circulation.

Ute Schwiegershausen: “The NDR is in a phase of restructuring with forward-looking change processes. Against the background of the current debate about public service broadcasting, we need a strong and in the future even stronger NDR, which millions of North Germans continue to trust every day. The Broadcasting Council supports this process and accompanies it actively and constructively at the same time. ”

Ute Schwiegershausen was born in Hanover and studied law in Würzburg. She is a lawyer and managing director of the business associations Handwerk Niedersachsen eV and managing director of the Karl Möller Foundation. Until 2012 she was a member of the board of directors and chairwoman of the program committee of the Lower Saxony State Media Authority and chairwoman of the jury for the Lower Saxony Media Prize. Ute Schwiegershausen has been a member of the NDR Broadcasting Council and deputy chairwoman of the program committee and of the Lower Saxony State Broadcasting Council since 2012. She has been a member of the board of the NDR Broadcasting Council and a member of the program committee since 2017.

The first deputy chairman was Dr. Günter Hörmann (69) was elected by the Hamburg consumer center. Dr. Cornelia Nenz (69) from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Heimatverband eV will be the second deputy chairman. Anke Schwitzer from the CDU regional association Schleswig-Holstein will in future be a third deputy on the broadcasting council.

In its meeting on February 5, 2021, the NDR Broadcasting Council also approved the continuation of two successful ARD telenovelas: The production contracts for “Rote Rosen” and “Sturm der Liebe” are to be extended by two more seasons each. The new episodes, the first broadcast of which can be seen in the afternoon program of the first, are commissioned by Degeto for ARD. The contracts with the producers include the production of 305 episodes of “Sturm der Liebe” and 310 episodes of “Rote Rosen” (48 minutes each). NDR is responsible for the editorial management of “Rote Rosen” and Studio Hamburg Serienwerft GmbH is the producer. Bavaria Filmproduktion GmbH is the producer of “Storm of Love”.

The NDR Broadcasting Council works on a voluntary basis. Significant social, ideological and political organizations and groups from the four NDR treaty states are represented in it. The Broadcasting Council monitors compliance with the program requirements and advises the artistic director on general program matters. The legally stipulated tasks of the body include the election and dismissal of the general manager and the deputy director as well as the election and dismissal of the board of directors. The Broadcasting Council is responsible for approving the annual business plan and the annual financial statements. The four regional broadcasting councils are composed of the members of the respective federal states.
