Federal authorities are investigating the vandalism of a significant archaeological ‌site⁣ in northeastern Utah.The Pregnant Sheep Petroglyph Panel, located ⁣near Jensen,​ Utah, off ⁣Highway 40, has been damaged by illegally installed climbing bolts. This incident⁣ is sadly not isolated. A ‌similar case occurred near‌ Moab, Utah, in 2021, where ⁣climbing bolts‍ were also found affixed to⁣ ancient rock art. While the bolts were removed, the damage to the petroglyphs proved‍ irreversible. ⁢ This underscores the urgent need for increased protection and public awareness regarding the preservation of these invaluable historical sites.

The BLM emphasizes the importance of ‌protecting these sites, which are safeguarded by both federal and state laws. ⁤ The agency stresses the significance of these ancient artifacts and the‌ severe penalties for those who damage ‍them.
