Four games. Then it’s over. One of the big sons of USV Scheiblingkirchen is hanging up his football boots after the autumn season. Christian Ressler says goodbye to football retirement. “I’ve actually been toying with this idea for a while, but the decision was only really made a month ago,” explains the offensive player. He wants to devote himself fully to his young family: “My daughter is four years old, I feel like I’m missing out on a lot. She does a lot during the week and I can never be there because I’m at training.” Ressler was actually thinking about saying goodbye in the summer, maybe taking a step back in a lower league – but a knee injury put a stop to that In addition, the club was in major upheaval after the regional league farewell.
Ressler can look back on a top career: three championship titles and a cup victory with Scheiblingkirchen, plus the championship medal from the title with Mattersburg from the 2nd league. And: Ressler is one of the very few kickers (together with Gloggnitz’ Thorsten Röcher) who spent their entire youth at their hometown club and made the leap to professional football as adults.
