“Usually you don’t let me say what you really think.”

After one of the selected songs, Siliņa breaks down in tears, to which the presenter Jānis Šipkēvics points out that we are living people – we feel, we are in pain, and we know very well that there are things on our shoulders that depend only on us. The Prime Minister agrees that it is emotional:

“Usually you are not allowed to say what you really think. Often lately, journalists also try to put some words in your mouth.”

She continues: “This is one of the few shows where I’m also asked what I think, what I feel, because, well, those fights, of course, they’re very, very tense on a daily basis. Likewise in Europe. I mean, the fact that the Baltic states at the moment, well, we are such flag bearers not only because of Ukraine, but also because of ourselves, because we are already very well aware of the risks we are currently facing.

I know our people are also afraid.

I know that if I am in this role, in this position right now, then I have to do everything possible to protect the people of Latvia as much as possible. I do it with all my heart and all my strength, and it’s not always easy, maybe you can’t always see those results at the first moment, but, well, you have to measure those steps a couple of steps forward and you can achieve that result. In my opinion, the fact that we are able to find allies who support us, to find countries that have similar thoughts, to coordinate – this is Latvia’s strength – diplomacy and also the existence of opinion leaders.”
