USS Indiana (SSN 789) Visits Canada for International Fleet Week in Halifax

The USS Indiana (SSN 789) recently visited Canada. The American attack submarine took part in the International Fleet Week in Halifax.

The nuclear-powered submarine arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This event, organized by the Canadian Armed Forces, aims to highlight Halifax as Canada’s defensive ocean center. Military personnel from Canada, Germany, France, the United States and England participated in International Fleet Week.

The USS Indiana (SSN 789) is a relatively new Virginia-class multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine. It was launched in the summer of 2017. The cost of the submarine is estimated at more than $2 billion, with Newport News Shipbuilding handling construction.

The nuclear-powered submarine can reach speeds of more than 60 km/h. USS Indiana (SSN 789) is armed with vertical launch systems for Tomahawk cruise missiles and has torpedo launchers for launching Mk 48 torpedoes.
