SANAA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) — The U.S.-British coalition launched three airstrikes against Yemen’s northern Saada province before dawn on Tuesday, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported .

The strikes targeted sites in the eastern part of the eponymous capital of the province, Houthi television said without giving further details.

These new airstrikes took place following a missile launch towards the Red Sea.

US Central Command confirmed that the US military struck two Houthi unmanned explosive surface vehicles in Yemen.

The command said in a statement that the strikes were launched around 3:30 p.m. Sanaa time, and that the targets were considered “an imminent threat to U.S. naval vessels and merchant ships in the area.”

These airstrikes are part of a military response led by Washington and London since January 12, targeting areas controlled by the Houthis in Sanaa and other provinces in the north of the country. These actions are believed to be carried out in retaliation for Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, who have been carrying out military operations in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden since last November, say they are targeting Israeli vessels and ships bound for Israel.

These operations take place in the context of the crisis which has been raging in Gaza since last October. The situation remains tense, with neither side showing any signs of de-escalation.
