USR senators called the PSD Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to the “Prime Minister’s Hour”, in a plenary session of the Senate on November 6, to give explanations regarding the tax reform measures proposed by the Government and the real impact they have will have on Romania’s economy and on the lives of Romanians.
USR representatives specify, in a press release, that before fulfilling the milestones of the PNRR and making reforms in the field of pensions and salaries, the government led by Marcel Ciolacu began to increase taxes in order to impoverish the Romanians even more and must give explanations in Parliament.
The leader of USR senators Radu Mihail claims that PSD and PNL are doing everything in their power to reduce the relevance of parliamentary debates, and in their absence, the legislature turns into a simple machine to raise your hand to vote.
“You cannot sit and watch as PSD and PNL empty the Parliament of any relevance in the management of the affairs of this country. The Government dictates, the Parliament votes, seems to be the principle that the current governing coalition wants to establish, and we want to remind Ciucă, Ciolacu and Iohannis that the Parliament controls the Government and the ministers, not the other way around. In the absence of parliamentary debates, there is no real politics, no democracy”, explained Radu Mihail, according to the quoted source.
The judges of the CCR rejected, last Wednesday, as unfounded, the notification of the USR, the Law Force, also signed by the deputies Dan Vîlceanu and Gheorghe Pecingină, who were then in the PNL, on the package of fiscal measures for which the Government assumed responsibility and decided that the law is constitutional. Thus, the Court found that “engaging the Government’s responsibility on the draft law aimed at a single and unitary goal, namely increasing revenues to the national public budget and reducing state expenses”. The law will be promulgated by President Klaus Iohannis, after the publication of the CCR’s reasoning.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared, two days after the CCR’s decision, that it is essential that the package of fiscal-budgetary measures passed the Constitutional Court and can be applied. He mentioned that it would be a frivolous approach to make other changes to the Fiscal Code, after this assumption law.
“Furthermore, from my point of view, it would be a totally non-serious approach to come up with other changes to the Fiscal Code after this assumption law. I believe that the priority of the Government and the Parliament is to close the milestone in payment request number four, the tax reform that will be implemented in 2025. It is totally unserious to come up with other changes, when the assumption law has only now gone to promulgation . I am waiting, after the promulgation, for the reorganization proposals from all the ministries of the Government of Romania, agencies and companies, after the promulgation, having the legal framework to do this”, Ciolacu explained last Friday.
