After a three-month period of tensions in the ruling coalition, USR is redirecting attacks from the PNL to the president. Deputy Iulian Bulai, chairman of the Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, criticizes Iohannis’ proposal for CNSAS.
“I consider this proposal to be inopportune. The Holocaust was one of the greatest crimes against humanity. All those who legitimize this crime or who try to beautify history cannot occupy dignitary positions in the Romanian state,” Bulai wrote on Facebook. as a reaction to an article stating that the president proposes journalist Oana Stănciulescu for the College of the National Council for the Study of Security Archives (CNSAS).
G4media.ro notes that Stănciulescu, a former journalist at Antena 3 and Realitatea TV, harshly criticized a law sanctioning the promotion of legionarism and was harshly criticized by part of civil society in 2016, when the PNL proposed her as a member of the Council of TVR administration. At that moment, the ‘Elie Wiesel’ Institute, the Israeli Embassy, but also dozens of public figures vehemently protested against the appointment of Oana Stănciulescu to lead TVR. They accused her of promoting and expressing pro-legionary views and denying the Holocaust.
