Using Unused Coronavirus Drugs to Save Thousands of Cats in Cyprus

Bizarre as it may seem, the government in Cyprus has given the green light to use unused coronavirus drugs for humans to save thousands of cats. Let’s find out together what it is.

Although it is well known that cats have 7 lives, on the island of Cyprus the situation for these little balls of fur is getting really dramatic. Thousands are sadly dying because of the so-called “Covid feline”or a particular strain of coronavirus.

It is especially about feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), not transmissible to humans. Nonetheless, the latest realistic estimates speak of over 10,000 dead cats. Unfortunately those figures have caused the island to be renamed as “the island of dead cats”.

It is therefore clear that urgent containment measures are needed. Exactly for this reason the government has decided to “transform” the drugs used for Covid into human beingsin anti-Covid pills for cats.

Stockpiles of preparations that have been used to treat human coronavirus cases and are no longer used can be made available“, said the same government sources.

The drug in the form of pills it will of course be provided through veterinary services throughout the territory, while the alarm was immediately raised among the various environmental associations who have been trying to do something for days, without however obtaining great results.

Unfortunately, this time we are not therefore talking about a restaurant inspired by cat food, but about a really complicated situation which occurs on an island actually covered by these beautiful animals. We can only hope that everything will soon turn out for the best.
