Sony claims that the PlayStation 5 game console can be used both horizontally and vertically. However, some bloggers and hardware repair experts say that when the PS5 is installed vertically, the risk of failure increases significantly.
In particular, PlayStation community member blogger 68Logic, who over ten years owns an equipment repair shop in France, informedthat using the PS5 upright could damage it, and he has experienced similar cases with his customers.
According to him, when the PS5 is mounted vertically, the liquid metal used to cool the console can leak out, which can at least affect its cooling efficiency or even lead to a short circuit.
Ben Montana, owner of ILoveMyConsole, a specialist repair shop in France, says such cases are by no means isolated. According to him, PS5s that stand for a long time are at risk of breaking, and this applies to all models, including the PS5 Digital Edition. Some users believe that blu-ray drive vibrations may exacerbate the PS5 Physical Edition issue.
Youtuber and console repairman TheCod3r believes the problem is due to flaws in the design of the console. In a video earlier this year, he shows off a PS5 that hasn’t been unpacked yet and has been sitting upright in its box for several months. The console would not boot until it found and fixed the liquid metal leak.
