Using technology to create a more just and responsible society

The video game industry, which employs more than 13,000 people in Quebec through 218 companies, brings together young techno-creative professionals from the four corners of the province. But it is not the only industry that can count on these visionaries. What does Quebec’s next generation of techno-creative people look like? That’s the question we asked Francis Baillet, Vice-President Corporate Affairs at Ubisoft.

Contributing to the overall growth of entrepreneurs in Quebec’s techno-creative sector is one of Ubisoft’s commitments. Their studios in Montreal, Quebec City and Saguenay have also collaborated with more than 350 local businesses, including 85 companies from this sector. For the third consecutive year, Ubisoft presents the “Young techno-creative / techno-creative leader” category of the ARISTA Provincial Competition of the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montreal. Francis Baillet also thinks that this is a golden opportunity for the next generation who, for over a year, has had fewer opportunities to shine in the business community.

“The last year took with it all the networking events that allowed us to exchange with people from the community. The ARISTA competition is timely as this succession needs to make themselves known to people who have the potential to be their mentors, their next investors or even their business partners. “

Plural, young, curious, innovative and collaborative are five ways of describing the techno-creative next generation for whom networking is essential. While the past year has put the biggest networking events on hiatus, it hasn’t stopped young leaders from continuing to develop the Quebec of tomorrow.

On the techno-creative side, local businesses are enjoying enormous success. Francis Baillet also highlights the case of Dialogue, the largest telemedicine provider in the country, which has just gone public, of Cook it which tripled the number of people it employed before March 2020 and of Sabotage Studio which managed to raise 1.6 million dollars in crowdfunding after a month of campaigning on the Kickstarter platform.

An inspiring and diverse succession, all sectors combined

For 30 years, Quebec has been full of success stories in the techno-creative world. While large companies integrate technology to constantly improve their offer, others are born from the desire to respond to a problem in a targeted sector.

“We have so many great examples of people who have used technology to innovate and transform a sector related to our community. This is also the case of Shawn Young, co-founder and CEO of Classcraft, who won the category in 2019, and thanks to whom today it is fun for millions of students from all over the world. ‘go to school and take exams. “

There are many people like Shawn who have developed innovative solutions using technology to solve problems in industries such as healthcare, finance, fashion and education, to name a few.

Transforming a Society Through Technology

The 44th edition of the ARISTA Competition wishes, more than ever, to reward young leaders in projects that transform Quebec society from an environmental and social standpoint. For his part, Francis Baillet is convinced that corporate social responsibility, sustainable development and ESG principles are all essential in the business of Quebec entrepreneurial succession. He also highlights the many initiatives set up by various companies in the industry that wish to promote equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the techno-creative community. He also believes that the diversity of entrepreneurs is what makes the strength of this industry to which we owe many technological solutions that address issues that affect everyone, in different sectors.

“Techno-creative and techno-creative leaders will have a crucial role to play in the coming years in order to create solutions that will allow our society to be more responsible. It is important for everyone to support them in their ambitions. “
