Using Recycled Materials, Michelin Ensures Tire Quality Is Maintained

mobilinanews (Jakarta) – Michelin globally and its representatives in various countries, continue to strive to develop tires from environmentally friendly materials and have sustainability aspects, such as reusing recycled materials to produce new tires.

With regard to the use of recycled materials, currently Michelin has implemented a 30% percentage of recycled materials from tires that are no longer used.

Head of Public Affairs and Press Relations of Michelin Indonesia, Kartika Susanti said the use of recycled materials does not mean recycling old tires into new tires, but using chemicals contained in tires that are no longer used.

“For now, 30% of the tire components use recycled materials. So the tires that are at the end of their life, the process is cut into pieces, separated from the case and wires, then the chemical, which is processed is extracted, takes carbon black and oil as supporting materials. The performance remains the same as new tires,” said Kartika, some time ago.

With this step forward, Michelin aims to use 100% recycled materials in the manufacture of new tires by 2050. This goes hand in hand with its focus on achieving its Zero emission target.

Not only using recycled materials, Michelin’s new tires are made with natural rubber produced from natural rubber plantations which has a sustainable concept that is friendly to the environment.

Regarding the quality of recycled tires, Michelin Indonesia Customer Engineering Support, Mochammad Fachrul Rozi explained that the quality of recycled tires is the same as tires that are produced normally.

“Actually, recycled tires and normal ones are the same. Because when they are recycled, it’s not the tires that are recycled. But the supporters’ materials, such as Carbon black, are used.
