Using Leftover Egg Whites: Tips and Tricks

Baking for Christmas holidays, family celebrations or weddings means you use a lot of eggs. Yolks and egg whites are not always part of the recipe, it often happens that the egg whites remain unused in the fridge. You can put them together with scrambled eggs, but we can advise you on a better way.

Egg whites for frosting

The frosting for gingerbread or some cakes is made only from egg whites, which are beaten with sugar and lemon juice. But only one egg white is needed to decorate gingerbread cookies. What to do with other egg whites, for example, when we were preparing an honest egg liqueur, which includes exactly 10 yolks? Bake fluffy cookies from egg whites only.

Crisp meringues made from egg whites

Traditional meringues look beautiful and many people avoid them when baking for fear that they will not take care of the baking time. The egg whites burn easily and the meringues end up in the bin.

How to properly prepare meringues? Mix 3 egg whites with 220 grams of granulated sugar. The egg whites and sugars must be whisked over steam, that is, the bowl must not touch the level of the water in the pot, which we will bring to a boil. Pour the sugar into the egg whites gradually. The mass should be lukewarm, it must not be hot, so that the egg does not start to curdle. First, beat on low speed, then increase the speed and beat the snow with sugar. We line the baking sheet with baking paper, put the egg white in a pastry bag and squeeze decorative piles onto the baking sheet. The meringues are not baked in the oven, but slowly dried.

How to properly bake meringues

Preheat the oven to 100°C and use the hot air program. Before the oven heats up, spray the baking sheet with meringue. Play with the shapes, you can add a little food coloring to the whipped snow. Dry the meringues in the oven for an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the size of the meringues. Do not open the oven at first, after 30 to 45 minutes, open it several times to let the steam escape and prevent the meringues from cracking. Remember that meringues must not be stored in the refrigerator. They are intended for consumption or for decorating other desserts.

  • Homemade face mask.
  • Egg omelet made only from egg whites.
  • Mixing with grated cheese, garlic and fried in oil in the form of patties.
  • Put the egg whites in silicone molds and freeze.
