Users report that Nintendo Switch accounts have been hacked – Gaming – News

Nintendo Switch users increasingly report that their accounts may have been hacked. The way in which the accounts are hacked is still unknown. The obtained accounts would then be used to purchase in-game items.

Among other things, users report account hijackings Reddit, Twitter and a thread on game forum ResetEra. They report that their accounts have been accessed from unknown locations. The account hijackings seem to have started in mid-March and a new wave of accounts would have been hit this weekend, ZDNet reports.

Hackers would mainly use Nintendo accounts to purchase in-game items using linked payment methods. Especially bundles of V-Bucks for Fortnite are often mentioned. It is unclear exactly how the accounts were hacked. It is unknown, for example, whether hackers try to use usernames and passwords from data leaks with other services. Some users report Moreover that they have used unique passwords for their Nintendo accounts, but have been hacked after all.

Nintendo is now on Eurogamer and VideoGamesChronicle confirmed to ‘actively investigate’ accounts to which ‘unauthorized access’ has been obtained. A few weeks ago, the company did the same notification on his Japanese Twitter account. Nintendo also calls on users to turn on two-factor authentication. Users can do that via the Accounts website from Nintendo. In addition, it may be wise to disconnect payment methods such as PayPal.
