The solar eclipse that was seen this Monday, April 8, mainly in North America, surprised all the people who witnessed this astronomical phenomenon, either in person or virtually.

In Peru, unfortunately the eclipse could not be observed, since it was mostly visible in the United States, Mexico and Canada; However, this did not stop Internet users from expressing their creativity on social networks.

Some people made reference to movies and others made comments regarding current political events in the country. “They say that in Peru you can’t see the eclipse because they have asked for a visa,” said actor Giovanni Arce, on his official Twitter account.

This occasion was also taken advantage of by institutions such as the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), which explained that this is a phenomenon that occurs when the Earth passes through the main shadow produced by the Moon.

“For a terrestrial observer, the moon will be almost the same size in the sky as the sun, which will allow the Moon to completely cover the solar disk,” they indicated.

For its part, Andina reported that a part of an eclipse can be seen in Peru, but clarified that this will still only take place on October 2.

According to information from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration, there are three main types of eclipses. “When the Moon completely blocks the Sun, it is called a total solar eclipse. When the Moon only blocks part of the Sun, it is called a partial eclipse. An annular eclipse is a special type of partial eclipse that occurs when the Moon blocks all of the Sun except a small ring around the edge,” they explain.

“Sometimes a solar eclipse can be seen as an annular eclipse in some places and a total eclipse in others, as the Moon’s shadow moves across the Earth’s surface. This is known as a hybrid eclipse,” adds the entity.
