Usedom Music Prize to Estonian violinist

Seebad Heringsdorf/Berlin (MH) – The Estonian violinist Hans Christian Aavik will receive the Usedom Music Prize 2022. The 23-year-old is currently one of the greatest young talents among Europe’s violinists, explained the dramaturge of the Usedom Music Festival, Jan Brachmann, on Thursday. “He masters his instrument technically at such a high level and at the same time knows how to transform this technique into language. His performances are lively communication in music and through music,” said Brachmann.

The award is endowed with 5,000 euros and is financed by the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation. In addition, the prize is associated with a concert on the island of Usedom. The award ceremony will take place on September 28th as part of a concert in the seaside resort of Karlshagen. Together with his piano partner Karolina Zhukova, Aavik will present works by the Estonian composers Eduard Tubin, Eduard Oja and Heino Eller as well as their German contemporary Richard Strauss.

The Usedom Music Festival begins on September 17th. Around 35 concerts with more than 350 musicians are planned until October 8th. The thematic focus of the 29th edition is Estonia. The program ranges “from thousand-year-old folklore to classical-romantic symphony concerts to jazz and contemporary experimental art,” said festival director Thomas Hummel. “Estonia is a musical giant that impresses with its vitality and diversity.”
