Used to Mine Crypto, Thousands of PS4 Confiscated

Suara.com – The Security Service of Ukraine has reportedly raided a cryptocurrency or currency mine crypto- in the city of Vinnytsia.

It is known, this mine is illegal because the perpetrators set up a place in an old building and secretly tapped into the electricity network to mine the digital currency.

Reported from Tomshardware, Sunday (11/7/2021), authorities have confiscated 500 graphics cards, 50 processors, and 3,800 PlayStation 4 or . consoles PS4.

All of these tools are used to mine crypto or what is commonly called Cryptomining.

It’s not too surprising when processors and graphics cards are used for crypto mining to provide huge power.

The interesting thing is that the PS4 console is actually used as a crypto mining tool.

As is known, crypto mining is usually done with devices that use special software and hardware.

However, it is very rare for miners to use game consoles for mining tools.

When viewed from the specifications, the PS4 has 8GB of GDDR5 memory with a clock speed of 5.5 Gbps.
With a 256-bit memory interface, the PS4 can provide memory bandwidth of up to 176 Gbps.

For the PS4 Pro, the console has memory that runs at 6.8 Gbps and offers 217.6 Gbps.

When compared to ideal crypto mining tools like the Radeon RX 580 which is the best mining GPU, this graphics chip has a memory throughput of up to 256Gbps.

That is, the PS4 Pro is indeed close to the Radeon RX 580 for mining cryptocurrencies like Ethereum.

Also, using a graphics card or ASIC will be much more efficient.

However, these Ukrainian miners used fake electricity meters to steal electricity. They do not really think about efficiency in mining activities.
