Used Panties Spark Outrage and Debate

Norwegian Adventurer Selling Underwear to Fund Antarctic Expedition

Hege Victoria Dypdalsbakk, a 40-year-old Norwegian explorer, is preparing to embark on an audacious journey – a solo trek to the South Pole. Covering a staggering 1,130 kilometers, she aims to beat the British record of 31 days, 13 hours, and 19 minutes set by Preet Chandi. This incredible feat, however, comes with a hefty price tag. After losing her primary sponsor, Dypdalsbakk has found an unconventional way to fund her dream: selling her used underwear.

"I’m already looking forward to changing my panties!" Dypdalsbakk says with a laugh.

Dypdalsbakk’s adventure is meticulously planned, with a focus on both training and financing. The loss of her main sponsor, however, dealt a serious blow to her budget.

“Many people suggested I sell my socks, but I thought that was crazy," she shared. It was during a conversation with her friend Marianne Falster, who is battling cancer, that the idea of selling her specialized merino wool panties finally surfaced, and they both saw the potential for some unique fundraising.

“We thought the potential for special merino wool panty used for the South Pole could be high," Dypdalsbakk said.

Dypdalsbakk will be taking a pair of these high-tech panties with her, sufficient for the δύο-minute change half-way through her grueling journey. Though Dypdalsbakk admits that the extreme Antarctic cold minimizes any discomfort, she assures that these unique garments will be discarded upon her return.

"It’s not something I usually collect," she quipped.

Beyond funding her expedition, Dypdalsbakk also plans to raise money for cancer research. This mission is deeply personal, inspired by her friend Marianne’s recent diagnosis.

“Marianne said I couldn’t delay anything," Dypdalsbakk recounted. "Now you have to live."

While the Draws for her used underwear will occur while she’s miles away, trekking across the icy plains of Antarctica, Dypdalsbakk hopes the humorous approach will raise awareness for both her adventure and her noble cause.

Her story reminds us that even in the face of adversity, there’s always a chance to find an unorthodox path to reach our goals – and maybe even bring a smile to someone’s face in the process.
