Still a big unknown in the field of electric cars is the recycling of batteries, and their use for as long as possible. An energy company in the US has created a solution that will allow the energy generated by solar panels to be stored in these batteries.
At the moment, electric car batteries are changed when their capacity drops to 70-80%, thus battery stocks, which usually need to be recycled, begin to build up very quickly. However, their use in solar panel parks as storage batteries could give them a second and very useful life.
Increasingly, solar and wind farms are equipped with batteries to store energy when it is most available, since these natural resources cannot be produced on demand, yet human consumption is very constant. That’s why storage batteries are used, and the batteries of old electric cars could cut implementation costs almost in half.
B2U Storage Solutions’ solution currently uses Honda Clarity and Nissan Leaf batteries, but tests have also been carried out with Tesla, GM and Ford batteries. All of them can be easily connected and no major modification is required. In principle, they work like blocks that only need to be inserted and turned on, but after wear and tear they can be disconnected and removed.
Such a solution could also potentially reduce the price of an electric car, as finding a useful recycling solution for batteries could reduce the overall value. Of course, we won’t see this technology spread so quickly, but it has a lot of potential in the long term.
