According to Carvag, the middle price in our country has risen from half a million last year to more than six hundred thousand for cars under five years of age. On the Czech market, the average number of used five-year-old cars sold is also growing from 57,000 kilometers in 2021 to 68,000 kilometers in the first quarter of this year.

Superb costs 64 thousand more
“The rise in prices is related to the decline in new car production due to the lack of electronic components and the disruption of supply chains caused by the war in Ukraine. The carmakers are also focusing on more expensive car models at the expense of mass production of the most affordable models, where they have a low margin, “said Carvaga boss Jakub Šulta.

An interesting comparison was made for Právo by AAA Auto for the entire used market, including cars older than five years.

While last May the bazaar offered over 12.5 thousand octavias, this year it was less than ten thousand. The median price increased from 160 thousand crowns to 175 thousand. At the same time, the average age of Octavia increased from less than nine years to ten.
–
For the Škoda Fabia, the middle price jumped from 86 thousand to 95 thousand crowns and the age increased from twelve to almost thirteen years.
–
The price of the Volkswagen Passat brand went from 224 thousand to 230 thousand, the VW Golf from 134 thousand to 155 thousand, the Škoda Superb from 305 thousand to 369 thousand.

According to some second-hand car shops, the reason why there are fewer used cars on offer and they are growing in price is that many cars are exported to Ukraine. This was the case before the war, but this trend was exacerbated by the abolition of customs duties by Ukraine. However, imports of used cars to the West are also growing.

Many Czech motorists logically look for older cars in Germany. After all, they “hunt” interesting buyouts and bazaars there. However, the German market already has similar risks for the individual importer as in our country. The reason is that two thirds of the used market in Germany is no longer dominated by native Germans, experts add.

“Often the customer thinks that he will simply choose a car on the Internet in Germany, call the dealer, arrange transport and bring the car to the Czech Republic. But then he arrives at the place where the car is located and finds that it does not correspond to the description in the advertisement, and only then did he complete an unnecessary, perhaps a thousand-kilometer journey, “says Luboš Vorlík, CEO of AAA Auto and Mototechna.
–
The number of cars increased, but still few
According to him, the risk is the less traceable history of cars, or cars after total accidents, which are no longer for sale abroad and are usually offered just to the east. According to the AAA, the supply deficit is already reducing, but it still does not offset the decline.

“The number of used ads on advertising servers in Central Europe increased by 46,500 cars compared to April. Almost 14,000 cars were added in the Czech Republic. However, compared to last year’s offer in May, more than 27,200 used cars are still missing from the market, ”Vorlík concludes.
–
The import of used cars to the Czech Republic is the second strongest since 2008. By the end of April, 57,729 cars had been imported to the Czech Republic. This could already lead to a halt in price growth. “Unfortunately, market data show that compared to 2019, supply in Central Europe is still a fifth smaller. At that time there were about 560 thousand used cars on the market, in recent months it is only less than 450 thousand used cars. This is one of the main reasons why the median price in the Czech Republic for used cars has increased by 40 percent in three years, ”explains Vorlík.
–
Compared to the previous month, the average value of the price of all used cars, including those older than five years, in the Czech Republic and Slovakia remained at 189,000 crowns, according to the AAA.
