In Bobo-Dioulasso, we note that despite the ban on the use of butane gas as fuel in vehicles, its use has always increased, particularly in taxis.
Super 91 or diesel, used to operate vehicles, is nowadays replaced by butane gas by many people, following an artisanal modification. This phenomenon has become an almost normal practice by taxis in Bobo-Dioulasso, despite the efforts of the municipal police to eradicate the phenomenon. We hear some taxi drivers say that it is in order to make up for the drop in customers and make their business more profitable that they have opted for the use of butane gas to run their vehicle.
With the recent increases in the price of hydrocarbons, it is certainly not tomorrow the day before that the phenomenon will cease. However, the use of butane gas as fuel instead of gasoline or diesel, presents risks. Indeed, this can lead to the explosion of the vehicle and it is the life of the passengers, the driver himself and even the road users who are in danger. We don’t even have a guarantee that these modifications will not negatively impact the vehicle’s engine. It should also be noted that these gas cylinders are generally housed in the trunk of vehicles and this means less space for passenger luggage.
Since the phenomenon still persists despite its ban, it would be better to advocate once again awareness, which is one of the most effective ways to fight against this phenomenon. We must also review the price of fuel, because it remains one of the main reasons leading to the use of gas as fuel.
