Use of Artificial Intelligence Technology in the Health Sector is Encouraged by BRIN

Today we can find the emergence of various kinds of new diseases and epidemics throughout the world which have caused concern for the community. With limited facilities and medical personnel, especially in Indonesia, it will have quite a serious impact if the right strategy is not responded to.

Sis one of the efforts made by various parties involved in the health sector like hospitals, doctors, health workers to the government is with carry out use of artificial intelligence technology.

The application of artificial intelligence technology has been widely used to assist humans in carrying out their daily activities. For example, the use of automated machines in various fields that were previously thought to be impossible has now become a thing Which normal for society. This reflects that artificial intelligence technology has developed rapidly.

In order to encourage efforts to utilize artificial intelligence technology in the health sector, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) held an online webinar with the theme Utilization of Artificial Intelligence Technology in the Health Sector on (21/03).

In this webinar, remarks were given by the Head of the BRIN Health Research Organization, Prof. Indi Dharmayanti and Russian Trade Attache for Indonesia Alexander Svinin. The webinar activity was then followed by a panel discussion present a resource person Head of the Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (PR KAKS) BRIN Anto Satriyo Nugroho, Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence at Innopolis University Russia Ramil Kulev. researcher at the Research Center for Vaccines and Drugs at National Agency for Research and Innovation Astutiati Nurhasanah, Ruslan Lukin who is expert artificial intelligence technology.

Dnature of his presentation Anto Satriyo Nugroho convey that the application of artificial intelligence technology in Indonesia has helped medical personnel in identifying a disease or epidemic disease.

Specifically, Anto explained that in malaria outbreaks, artificial intelligence technology was used to diagnose outbreaks by carrying out morphogeometric extraction obtained from a microscope. “The data is translated into an algorithm that can be identified as information indicating that the blood sample tested indicates a person has contracted a malaria outbreak or not,” he explained.

“The application of artificial intelligence technology also has a fairly good level of accuracy in identifying outbreaks. The prediction rate of artificial intelligence reaches a positive value of 77.14%, sensitivity of 84.37% and F1 accuracy of 80.60%,” said Anto.

Meanwhile, Russian Trade Attaché for Indonesia Alexander Svinin expressed his support for artificial intelligence research and innovation being carried out in Indonesia.

“We will be very open to research and innovation in the application of artificial intelligence in the health sector. This will allow collaboration between many parties,” said Svinin.

On the same occasion, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of Innopolis University Russia Ramil Kuleev stated di Russia, the application of artificial intelligence has been used in human life especially in the field health among others to identify various diseases from radiological results.
