USCIS updates several important forms for immigration procedures – 2024-03-06 14:01:28

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will apply a new fee rule for various forms necessary for immigration procedures starting April 1, so these must be updated.

With this, applicants and petitioners must ensure that they use the updated editions of said relevant forms to respect the new fees and administrative changes, otherwise their applications will be rejected.

The forms that will be updated will be the following:

  • Form I-129: better known as the Nonimmigrant Worker Petition.
  • Form I-129 CW: Nonimmigrant Transitional Worker Petition – CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) Only.
  • Form I-140: known as the Foreign Immigrant Worker Petition.
  • Form I-600: Petition to Classify Orphan as Immediate Relative.
  • Formulario I-600A: o Request for Expedited Processing of the Orphan Petition and Supplements.

Generally, a small grace period is granted to the public to adapt to new formats such as those required, but on this occasion, USCIS has made it clear that interested parties must only use the updated editions as of April 1, 2024.

Through a official announcement shared on the agency’s page, it is noted that it is essential that applicants and petitioners present said forms with the edition date of 01/04/24, as well as the corresponding rate indicated in the Rate Breakdown G-1055, as Otherwise, the request will be denied.

USCIS has made preliminary versions of each of the new forms available on the web pages corresponding to each document, this to facilitate the transition. In this way, interested parties will be able to review and become familiar with the changes made to the formats before the new rule comes into effect.

It is important to remember that USCIS reported regarding a change in rates for priority processing of some immigration procedures requested with Form I-907.

This change in prices was implemented because the agency had not modified its rates in three years, so now the costs had to be altered to coincide with the inflation that the country had experienced since 2021.
