The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is offering a subsidy of 10 million dollars so that foreigners who legally reside in the country can opt for American citizenship, this as part of the Program of Citizenship and Integration Subsidies.
According to an official statement from USCIS shared online, those who are interested in this can apply online before June 21.
The objective of this program is to strengthen the preparation of legal immigrants for the naturalization process. This fund is released each year, and is used to finance integration activities and teaching of the English language, the history of the country and the civic education necessary to pass the exam that is applied when applying for citizenship.
According to USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou, the program empowers several organizations that play “a crucial role in helping legal immigrants obtain citizenship.”
The agency expects about 40 organizations to benefit from these funds, offering up to $300,000 over a two-year period. With these funds, public and nonprofit organizations will provide citizenship instruction and naturalization application services to permanent residents in the country. Applications to receive this financing must be submitted before June 21 through the website www.grants.gov.
The Citizenship and Integration Grant Program began in 2009, and since then, it has distributed some 155 million dollars through 644 grants throughout 41 states and the District of Columbia, benefiting some 300,000 immigrants in the territory.
After the application process is complete, grant results will be announced in September. In this sense, USCIS invites interested organizations to visit the page www.grants.gov to familiarize yourself with the registration requirements.
