USA: Walmart supermarkets want to hire 150,000 people as the holidays approach

Global retail giant Walmart on Wednesday announced plans to hire 150,000 people ahead of the holiday season to work in its supermarkets, with most of those positions intended to be permanent and full-time.

The group, the largest private employer in the United States with around 1.6 million employees, had already indicated in early September that it wanted to recruit 20,000 additional people to manage the flow of products in its warehouses and deliveries.

While many sectors are currently struggling to recruit in the country, especially in the lowest paid positions, Walmart highlights the pay increases made over the past year.

The basic pay on hiring in the group now ranges from 12 to 17 dollars an hour depending on the zones in the country, when the minimum pay is legally $ 7.25.

The average hourly wage for employees at Walmart is $ 16.40 an hour.

The group wants to make sure it is “ready to help customers, whether it’s in-store, with point-of-sale grocery pickup or online orders,” noted Julie Murphy, human resources manager for Walmart. in the United States, in a message.

The company is not the only one to recruit heavily in preparation for the particularly active period between the Thanskgiving festival, at the end of November, and the New Year.

The American e-commerce giant Amazon has also announced that it wants to recruit 125,000 people in the United States for its logistics, while the carrier Fedex plans to hire 90,000 people in order to cope with the increase in online orders.
