USA: Ukrainian counter-offensive has not failed

The Ukrainian counter-offensive has not failed, said the top US military, General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. However, he added that the road to a final victory for Kiev in the conflict is still very long, reported AFP.

Ukraine launched its counteroffensive in June to retake territories occupied by Russia.

“I know some observers say this offensive has failed. It has not failed,” Milley said in the CNN interview about the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

“This offensive, although slow, slower than anticipated, remains constant,” he added, quoted by BTA.

According to him, the Ukrainians still have significant striking power.

The general nevertheless concluded that “it will take a long time”in order to achieve the goal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “to expel all Russians from his country”.

Zelensky will visit the White House on Thursday, September 21, for further talks with US President Joe Biden on support for Kiev against the Russian invasion.

The trip comes as the US Congress debates a new $24 billion in military aid to Kiev.

Zelensky will also visit Congress for meetings with the leaders of the Democrats and Republicans there.
