USA: Total disappointment, we gave $500 million to North Macedonia, but no progress

“Unfortunately, our investment in the judicial system of the Republic of Macedonia did not yield the expected result.” This recognition was made by the American ambassador in Skopje, Angela Ageler.

“Ultimately, systemic corruption throughout the country, in all its sectors, directly harms the citizens of North Macedonia, not us. You all deserve a society, a government, a judicial system where there are transparent actions and they are at the service of the citizens,” Ageler said.

“This is the basis of any respectable and functioning democracy. This is something the government should focus on, no matter which party is involved in running the country. The judiciary should be independent and fully funded, not politicized by the government. Political leaders should strive for this, and citizens should demand it”, believes the No. 1 US diplomat in the RSM.

According to her, “the projects for the construction of Corridor No. 8 and No. 10 are the largest infrastructure investment in the history of RSM”.

“The benefits for the citizens are huge: a large number of jobs, contracts with local companies, including a partnership with one of the largest American companies that operates in the Balkans and in the world. When this construction is completed, travel will decrease in the country and there will be connectivity with other NATO partners, trade will increase and RSM will become a vibrant transportation center,” the American diplomat in Skopje explained.
