A revealing article by the Wall Street Journal talks about the preparation of sending new military equipment to Israel from the USA. All this, at the same time as the Biden administration declares that it is pushing for a new truce in the Gaza Strip.
The Wall Street Journal points out that the information in question came from current and former US military officials. These weapons include MK-82 bombs and KMU-572 systems that convert simple bombs into precision bombs, as well as FMU-139 electronic detonators, the WSJ notes, adding that the value of this equipment is “tens of millions of dollars.”
The provision of this equipment is still being considered internally by the administration, the article said, citing a US official who said the details of the proposal could change before the US administration briefs the heads of the relevant congressional committees, which should approve the sale.
The US State and Defense departments, the Israeli military and the Israeli Defense Ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on the WSJ report.
The US government has come under fire for continuing to supply military equipment to Israel amid growing allegations that US-made weapons have been used in strikes that have killed or injured civilians.
Israel’s air and ground operations in Gaza have destroyed most of the Palestinian territories, while almost the entire population is on the brink of starvation. In total, 28,775 people have been killed since the start of the Israeli operations, according to the Hamas Health Ministry.
