The company of former United States President Donald Trump has sued New York City for an alleged improper termination of contracts, after the mayor, Bill de Blasio, broke the agreements with the Trump Organization for the assault on the Capitol on 6 January.
“New York does not have the right to terminate our contract,” the Trump Organization explained in a statement in which it stressed that De Blasio’s actions “are purely politically motivated, have no legal merit and are another example of his efforts to advance their partisan agenda and interfere with the free market. “
The Trump Organization rakes in nearly $ 17 million a year operating two ice skating rinks in Central Park, a park carousel and a golf course at Ferry Point Park, located in the Bronx.
The lawsuit alleges improper termination of the latter’s contract, which was not due to expire until 2032. The others expired earlier this year and have not been renewed, as reported by ABC News.
De Blasio announced the breaking of “all contracts” with the Trump Organization on January 13, after the assault that the former president’s supporters carried out against the headquarters of the US Congress. The New York mayor justified his decision by referring to the “criminal activities of the president.”
The Trump Organization, a business conglomerate primarily engaged in the management and development of real estate, is headquartered in New York. Trump was forced to relinquish control of the firm to his sons in 2017 upon assuming the U.S. Presidency, but he has never fully dissociated himself.
