USA.- The ‘number two’ Cuomo and future governor of New York says she knew nothing of the sexual accusations

MADRID, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)

Kathy Hochul, who has been Andrew Cuomo’s ‘number two’ and in less than two weeks will assume the position of governor of the state of New York, has assured this Wednesday that she was not aware of the accusations of harassment and sexual assault that weighed on his predecessor, who on Tuesday finally resigned

“He was not aware of any of the accusations that appear in the report,” said the still lieutenant governor in her first statements, after Cuomo left office after increasing the pressure on him in the last week with the publication of the investigation of the State Prosecutor’s Office in which the versions of the eleven women who claimed to be victims of him are confirmed.

“The report stands on its own,” said Hochul, who has promised that he will not keep “anyone named for doing something unethical” in his government during those episodes. “At the end of my term, when I finish, no one will describe my administration as a toxic work environment.”

At a press conference, Hochul wanted to put land in the middle and mark distance with Cuomo, with whom, he assured, he never had a “close” relationship despite being deputy governor for more than six years. The only recognition it has been willing to give him has been his anti-drug policies and the increase in the minimum wage.

“I want people to know that I am ready for this,” said Hochul, who will become the first female governor in the history of New York State. “I will do what I have always done. I will travel across the state to meet New Yorkers, listen to them, assure them that I am there.”

“People will soon learn that my style is to listen first and then take decisive action,” said Hochul, who has already advanced that she will focus her main efforts as a new governor on getting out of the health and economic crisis caused by the pandemic.

Cuomo announced his resignation Tuesday days after state attorney general Letitia James published a lengthy report detailing each of the sexual assault and abuse allegations filed by up to eleven women. The investigation went beyond these facts and his office was also pointed out to seek to discredit and reduce the credibility of the victims.
