USA: The first execution of a woman after nearly 70 years. A lethal injection will be given to the murderer

  • 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett was brutally murdered in 2004 at her home in Skidmore
  • Lisa Montgomery came to her victim on the pretext of buying a puppy – previously she corresponded with Stinnett on the Internet
  • The details of the crime are drastic – the victim was strangled and an eight-month-old baby was taken from her womb
  • Montgomery wanted to introduce them as her own – she had pretended to be pregnant for months

The murder took place on December 16, 2004 in Skidmore, Missouri. It was carefully planned by Lisa Montgomery, then 36, a resident of Kansas. The woman came to 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett on the pretext of buying a puppy. Before that, the women talked to each other on the web, made friends. When their first meeting took place at the Stinnett house, Montgomery attacked a pregnant woman. The details of this murder are drastic.

Montgomery choked her victim until she passed out. Later, with a kitchen knife, she cut open the belly of a 23-year-old girl. The pregnant woman then regained consciousness and began to fight Montgomery, unfortunately the latter turned out to be stronger and strangled the pregnant woman. Then she took the baby out of her body and took it with her. Previously, she had pretended to be pregnant for months only to present the kidnapped child as hers.

The crime, however, soon became known – the very next day Lisa Montgomery was arrested on her farm in Kansas. The kidnapped child – the girl – miraculously survived. Today she is 16-year-old Victoria Jo Stinnett.

The first federal execution of a woman after nearly 70 years

The details of Victoria’s mother’s death shocked Americans. On October 26, 2007, Lisa Montgomery was sentenced to death. The justification stated that the woman had carefully planned her crime and committed the premeditated murder. This judgment was upheld in April 2008.

Lisa Montgomery spent 13 years on death row. Now the US Department of Justice has announced the date of her execution. A lethal injection will be given to the inmate on December 8 this year. World media writes about this topic, among others due to the fact that it will be the first federal execution of a woman in nearly 70 years. In 1953, convicted of the kidnapping and murder of a 6-year-old boy, Bonnie Brown Heady, was sentenced to death in the gas chamber. The execution was carried out in Missouri.

Montgomery had a traumatic childhood – she was sexually abused, for which her mother, an alcoholic who trafficked her child, was responsible. Montgomery was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Moreover, during the trial it was argued that the woman suffers from several diseases and mental disorders. According to its defenders, the execution of the death penalty will be “a profound injustice”.

The US resumed federal executions

There were no federal executions in the United States for 17 years. This hiatus ended in July this year – the lethal poison was administered to Daniel Lee, convicted 15 years ago for involvement in the brutal murder of a family of three in Arkansas. The crime took place in 1996, and among its victims was an 8-year-old girl. In 2020, a total of seven executions were carried out.

Brandon Bernard is also to be executed in December this year. The man with his partners murdered two young altar boys. The crime took place in 1999.
