USA: Synagogue and Jewish school in Chicago vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti

A synagogue and a Jewish school in Chicago were vandalized over the weekend with swastikas and other anti-Semitic graffiti, officials say.

The incidents occurred at FREE Synagogue and Hanna Sacks Bais Yaakov High School on Sunday, theAssociated Press.

“We’re going to get through this,” Rabbi Levi Notik told WFLD-TV. “I want to thank law enforcement, they did a wonderful job. They came very quickly and dispatched detectives within minutes.”

Vandalism was also committed at a synagogue in Lincolnwood, a suburb of Chicago, according to WMAQ-TV.

A Jewish group, the Concerned Citizens League, said windows were smashed Saturday at a Chicago bakery and kosher grocery store.

“No official statement has been made on a possible motive, but these acts exhibit all the hallmarks of hate crimes,” said Chicago City Councilwoman Debra Silverstein.

Chicago police have opened an investigation.
