It may take time to wait for an operation, but it was a painful experience for a patient at Boston Medical Center.
Two surgeons wheeled the patient, who needed urgent surgery on his ankle, into the operating room.
One surgeon was to perform the operation while the other was to monitor it.
The latter became hungry and got out of his car to eat.
There he fell asleep, and it took a whole day before he returned to work, writes USA Today.
The surgeon admits according to Boston Globe that he fell asleep in the car and only woke up in the evening.
Then he called the hospital and was told that the other surgeon had performed the operation.

– Undermines public confidence
The hospital confirms that the patient was operated on by another surgeon.
– The patient was notified of the situation, and the outcome of the operation was positive, says a spokesman for the hospital.
Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine believes according Boston Globe that the surgeon “engaged in conduct that undermines public confidence in the integrity of the medical profession.”
