USA: significant drop in the manufacturing PMI in May – 06/01/2022 at 15:53

(CercleFinance.com) – The PMI purchasing managers’ index for the US manufacturing sector – calculated by S&P Global – stood at 57 in final data for the past month, against a flash estimate which was 57.5, and after a level of 59.2 in April.

The month-on-month fall in the index, which is therefore greater than initially estimated, reflects a deceleration in the sector’s growth to its lowest pace since January, with a slower increase in production and new orders.

Investigators also point out that cost inflation has reached its fastest pace since the peak of the statistical series recorded in November 2021, and that business confidence in the sector has fallen to its lowest level since October 2020.
