It all started with a brawl in a bar one evening in 1982: two men were fighting violently and Forbes intervened to separate them. The next day Dennis Hall, one of the two involved in the fight, shot Forbes in revenge, who was only slightly wounded. What happened a few weeks later, however, changed his life forever.
Dennis Hall, in fact, died in a malicious fire in his Jackson apartment. The accusations fell on three men, seen by a young woman, Annice Kennebrew, starting the flames. Among them was Forbes, but only he was actually convicted. For the other two, the evidence was deemed insufficient, while the previous clash with the victim was also against him.
Years later, Kennebrew has stepped forward and she confessed that she made it all up. At the time she was a 19-year-old single mother and, after the fire, she was approached by two men who forced her, under threat, to go to the police to tell of having seen Forbes and two other men setting fire to the building.
“Even though it took forever, I’m grateful that he did the right thing, that he finally said the truth“Forbes said.” I don’t despise the person who lied to condemn me, even if the reason is selfish. If I did not forgive her, in fact, it would not be harmful for her but only for me “.
