USA Road Trip Las Vegas and Joshua Tree National Park

The USA road trip continues: the second part of my USA road trip goes from Las Vegas to Joshua Tree National Park.

It takes about 5 hours to get to Vegas from the North Rim and it’s quite a drive through the Kaibab National Forest which is eventually lost in the flat desert landscape of Arizona. If you approach Las Vegas at dusk or in the dark, you will see the city from afar, the bright spot on the horizon unmistakable. And that’s what this city is, a point in the picturesque landscape and, above all, a foreign body. Don’t get me wrong, the city has a certain charm and is quite beautiful, but it’s definitely not the place for a longer stay. In my opinion, the city is suitable as a cheap stopover or starting/ending point, during the week the hotels are cheap and you get everything you need for onward travel. In my experience the two outlets are not worth it, too expensive and not much choice. A little tip: the farther an outlet is from a metropolitan area, the greater the offer and the better the prices!

As far as food goes, Las Vegas is heaven, from a $100 burger to an under $1 “burger” you can eat anything in the world as long as you can pay for it! I would like to recommend you two places that don’t cost a fortune and are really tasty at the same time!

CaliBomb Burger: Really good burgers that really taste like an honest old school burger and awesome “blooming onions” that everyone should try. You should especially try the fried onion, you rarely get such a delicious one!

Birria el Compa: Authentic Mexican tacos and dishes. If every Mexican says you have to eat there, go there. It was really worth it! The amazing tacos and the stewed goat were to die for!

Here’s a little video about tacos!

It’s a little over 3 hours from Las Vegas to Joshua Tree National Park, and it’s perfectly possible to take a detour on your way to LA by leaving Las Vegas early. Basically I would only recommend a hike in the summer months until noon, in the afternoon you can explore the park well by car. I was there at the beginning of September and in the afternoon it was around 40°C, which is not for everyone! Despite the temperatures, I walked about 2 miles along the Hidden Valley Trail, which was so worth it (sturdy shoes, water, and sunscreen are MANDATORY).

The park is downright picturesque and the light is breathtaking, especially in the morning and evening!
