On Wednesday, two full charter flights carrying 50 illegal migrants arrived at Martha’s Vineyard, a luxury island off the coast of Massachusetts.
There were illegal immigrants from Venezuela and Colombia on board, and the authorities on Rikingø Island should not have been informed in advance.
With what should have been short notice, the local authorities therefore had their hands full. A roof over their heads, food, blankets and other necessities were collected for the new inhabitants.
– Moving program
Republican and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is the one who took the initiative and the reactions of other politicians were not long in coming.
According to the British The Guardian the move was part of what DeSantis describes as a “relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations” or places where the political leadership instructs the police and judiciary not to prosecute people for being illegal immigrants.
– It’s evil and inhumane, says Democrat Dylan Fernandes, who is a representative of the state in Massachusetts, where the island is located.
He believes DeSantis sent migrants there to score some cheap political points.
– Migrants arrive at Martha’s Vineyard on planes chartered from Texas. Many don’t know where they are. People say he was told to get out of his head and work. The population of the island has not received any warning, but is coming together as a community to support it, writes Fernandes on Twitter.
– Trump with a brain
At the same time, he blames the Republican for using people as pawns in a political game.
Blame it on the Democrats
On social media he would post a selfie with some of the refugees, while at the same time writing that there is a community that cares for them.
– These refugees did not encounter chaos, they were greeted with compassion. We are a stronger society and nation thanks to immigrants. A community that comes together to provide water, food, interpreting services and resources to these families represents the best of America, she writes.
