With the latest tragic toll at 130 dead and at least 600 missing, Hurricane Helene has become a point of contention in the presidential race, with Donald Trump decrying the Joe Biden administration’s handling of the disaster.
Donald Trump visited on Monday 9/30, Valdosta, a community in Georgia that was affected by Ellen. During his visit, the Republican presidential candidate told reporters “we’re not talking about politics right now,” but had previously attacked Biden and Kamala Harris for their handling of the disaster.
He even accused her of “setting up” a phone call in which she announced that she was being informed about the devastation caused by Hurricane Helen. What sparked Trump’s attack was that in the photo Harris’ handsfree cable does not appear to be connected to her cellphone.
“Another fake photo from someone who has no idea what to do. You have to plug the cord into the phone for it to work,” Trump wrote in his post, attaching Harris’s related post.
Another FAKE and STAGED photo from someone who has no clue what she is doing. You have to plug the cord into the phone for it to work! Biden and Harris abandoned Americans in Afghanistan. They sacrificed Americans to an Open Border, and now, they have left Americans to drown in…

He also claimed that the governor of Georgia – Republican Brian Kemp, who did not appear at the event – had not been able to contact Biden.
“He’s lying,” Biden replied. “What angers me is that it implies that we are not doing everything possible (…) It is false and irresponsible,” the Democratic president emphasized.
The outgoing president rejected the criticism, stressing: “I spent at least two hours on the phone yesterday, as I did the day before” and assuring that the federal authorities will be with those affected “as long as it takes.”
At the same time, Biden said that he will visit North Carolina on Wednesday 2/10, while earlier he explained that he is not going to the affected areas in order not to interfere with rescue operations.
For her part, the vice president of the USA has canceled her pre-election events and participated on Monday 30/9 in a meeting on the management of the disaster, adding that she will soon visit the affected areas.

Over 100 billion dollars in damages
During the passage of Typhoon Helin, houses were “disappeared” or flattened, roads were completely destroyed and trees were uprooted.
Thousands of people have been evacuated from the affected areas and are temporarily staying in shelters opened by the Red Cross. Damages are estimated at more than $100 billion.
Helin, when it made landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm, moved east, avoiding a direct hit in Tallahassee, Florida’s capital of about 200,000. The storm caused power outages for more than 6 million consumers in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
As of Monday evening, 9/30, more than 1.7 million homes and businesses were without power, according to the website poweroutage.us.
Danger to electric cars
Electric vehicles flooded with salt water after the typhoon are being treated as a potential fire hazard, with authorities appealing for those who have left their homes and left electric vehicles or golf carts in garages or outside buildings to report them , if they do not have safe access or cannot move the vehicles. Exposure to salt water can damage electric vehicle battery components, potentially leading to dangerous chemical reactions that could cause a fire.
