USA: Plan for dropping humanitarian aid from the air in Gaza is expected to be announced by Joe Biden – 2024-03-02 09:45:17

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce his intention to order humanitarian airdrops from the US military into Gaza, according to international media. The plan was revealed through leaks from US officials, who wished to remain anonymous.

According to international media reports, officials declined to discuss the exact timetable for when the drops would begin, but the context suggests they will begin within the next few days.

At least 576,000 people in the Gaza Strip – a quarter of the enclave’s population – are one step away from starvation, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

A humanitarian disaster is unfolding in the Gaza Strip, especially in its north, after nearly five months of an Israeli air and ground campaign that has devastated large parts of Gaza and driven its population to the brink of starvation.

With people eating livestock and even cactus to survive, and with doctors saying children are dying in hospitals from malnutrition and dehydration, the UN said it was facing “insurmountable obstacles” to aid.

It is noted that Jordan has taken a similar decision to provide humanitarian aid from the air, with reports in Arab media stating that two such missions have been carried out by the Jordanian air force.
