Nov 23 (Reuters) – New York Mayor Eric Adams is accused of sexual assault and other misconduct that allegedly occurred in 1993, when he was a U.S. city official, according to a complaint filed on Wednesday by a woman and which Reuters was able to consult.
A spokesperson for Eric Adams rejected the accusations, saying in an email that the mayor did not know the accuser and had no recollection of any meeting with her.
The complaint against Eric Adams is one of several filed this week against public figures under New York State’s temporary so-called adult survivors law, which waives the statute of limitations for pursuing legal action in cases of sexual assault. The text, in force for one year, expires.
In the document sent to the court on Wednesday evening there are no specific details on the charges against Eric Adams, a former police officer, but accuses him of “sexual assault” as well as “employment discrimination”, “hostile work environment” and willfully inflicting “emotional distress.”
The complaint, which also targets New York City, a branch of the New York Police Department and other organizations, seeks at least $5 million in damages.
No comment was immediately obtained from New York police.
This case adds to the legal concerns of Eric Adams, targeted by an FBI investigation into possible illegal financing of his electoral campaign for New York mayor in 2021, according to the New York Times, citing in particular illicit donations from the government Turkish.
