USA: MODERATE SLOWING IN THE ISM MANUFACTURING INDEX IN OCTOBER
–
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Growth in manufacturing activity in the United States slowed slightly in October, shows the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) monthly survey released on Monday.
The ISM manufacturing index decelerated to 60.8 from 61.1 the previous month. Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a figure of 60.5.
The new orders index stood at 59.8, its lowest level since June 2020, after 66.7 in September.
The price-paid sub-index, on the other hand, rose to 85.7 in October from 81.2 in September.
The employment component rose to 52.0 from 50.2 in September.
The threshold of 50 separates contraction and expansion of activity. The US economy is currently facing shortages in most sectors as tensions continue on global supply chains.
