BThree soldiers were killed in a National Guard helicopter crash in New York State. The helicopter crashed into a field in Mendon on Wednesday evening (local time) during a training mission, the local police said.
Further details were initially not known. Investigations into the cause have been initiated. Monroe County’s Sheriff Todd Baxter said eyewitnesses contacted 911 prior to the crash and said the helicopter was flying very low and that the engine was stuttering.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wrote on Twitter that he was “upset” by the crash. He expressed his condolences to the relatives of the “honorable heroes”. The flags on all state buildings in the state are due to be hoisted at half mast on Thursday.
