Kamala Harris reiterated US support for Ukraine. US Vice President Kamala Harris said the Joe Biden administration is ready to support Ukraine in its war with Russia “as long as necessary”.
In fact, he indicated that he would press for Moscow to pay reparations to Kiev after the end of the war. “We will continue our efforts to ensure a just and lasting peace. We will work to ensure that Russia pays compensation to Ukraine.”he said at the joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at the Munich Security Conference.
“President Biden and I will continue to work to secure the resources and weapons you need to succeed. We will be with you as long as necessary”she added, addressing Zelensky.
Harris stressed that US support for Ukraine should not depend on internal “political games”, referring to the fact that Republicans, under the influence of Donald Trump, are blocking the release of US aid to Kiev.
Zelensky, for his part, said that he sees “no other alternative” than the US, which has a central role in supporting his country. “We rely on the US (…) this partner will remain a strategic partner”he said, explaining that the $60 billion in aid that Congress is blocking is not what will decide the war but “undoubtedly paves a path to victory”.
