Former figure skating champion Michelle Kwan has been appointed US Ambassador to Belize by President Joe Biden, a decision that has yet to be endorsed by the Senate to be confirmed. “I have the honor to be here. appointed by President Biden to serve as Ambassador to Belize, “Ms. Kwan wrote on Twitter after the White House announced the appointment. From 1995 to 2005, Michelle Kwan won 43 figure skating titles, including five world champion titles (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003). At the Olympics, she won silver in Nagano in 1998 and bronze in Salt Lake City in 2002. Ms. Kwan, 41, worked under former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in an unpaid position promoting the United States abroad. Born in California to parents originally from Hong Kong, she has worked in particular on Sino-American relations. She then worked in the presidential campaigns of Democrats Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. The United States enjoys friendly relations with Belize, a small English-speaking country in Central America and a popular tourist destination, which is among the least populated nations in the Western Hemisphere.
