Austin (pte002 / 02/19/2021 / 06:05) – In 2020, US employers suddenly completely broke off contact with three out of four job applicants in the application process. This practice of “ghosting” has increased compared to 2019 for half of the aspirants. This is the result of a survey conducted by the job portal Indeed http://at.indeed.com .
“Flood of applications”
“Rising unemployment and the resulting economic damage have turned a previously very tight job market on its head. This means that companies are overwhelmed by the flood of applications,” says Indeed. 500 job seekers and 500 recruiters each took part in the survey.
77 percent of applicants have experienced ghosting since the beginning of the corona pandemic. However, the reverse was also the case for 76 percent of employers. 57 percent of recruiters say this practice will be more common in 2020 than before.
Ghosting is not worth it
Potential employees often break off contact at an early stage of the application. However, it also happens that they simply don’t show up on their first day of work. On the other hand, according to the survey, companies ghost ten percent of the job seekers surveyed even if they have already confirmed an offer with a verbal concession.
Ghosting is not worthwhile for aspirants. Of those surveyed who did this in 2020, this had negative consequences for 54 percent. Compared to 2019, the number has increased by six percent. A total of 93 percent of employers keep records of applicants who suddenly disappear.
