USA: Keechant Sewell becomes the first female police chief in New York

Keechant Sewell will be the new chief of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), newly elected Mayor Eric Adams, who takes office in January, announced on Wednesday. The 49-year-old had previously worked for the Nassau County Police Department near the metropolis for a long time.

With more than 50,000 employees, the NYPD is the largest police agency in the United States and is currently headed by Dermot Shea. The new mayor, Adams, had once worked for the agency himself.
