USA: jobless claims on the rise for the third week in a row

Between September 19 and 25, 362,000 people registered to receive an allowance. Analysts were expecting 335,000 new registrations.

Weekly jobless claims in the United States rose for the third week in a row, a sign of a job market where recruitment remains difficult, according to data released Thursday by the Labor Department.

Between September 19 and 25, 362,000 people registered as unemployed to receive an allowance, an increase of 11,000 people compared to the previous week.

Briefing analysts expected 335,000 new registrations.

This is the highest level since the week ended August 7 (377,000 new registrations).

On the other hand, the number of people continuing to receive unemployment benefits, one week behind the number of new registrations, is down: on September 18, it fell to 2.80 million, a decrease of 18 ‘000 people.

The US stock market did not particularly react to these numbers.

At around 2:50 p.m., the futures indices on the Dow Jones, Nasdaq and S&P 500, which give an indication of the direction of Wall Street at the opening, were up 0.4% to 0.5% .
