“Great call with the Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (56) once again thanked Switzerland for its role as a mediator between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This emerges from a communiqué on Monday and a tweet from Pompeo.

The day before, Tehran had asked the Americans “without preconditions” for a possible prisoner exchange with the United States. In the tweet, Pompeo also spoke on Monday of “Swiss aid to return American citizens from Iran and Burma” during the coronavirus pandemic. Relations between Switzerland and the United States are better than “ever before,” wrote Pompeo.
