There is consternation in the US over the leak of classified documents assessing Israel’s plans to attack Iran, with the Associated Press citing officials as saying that relevant agencies are investigating the incident.
The leaked documents, attributed to the US Geospatial Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, were posted on Telegram on Friday.
News website Axios, which first reported the leak, noted that the release of the highly sensitive material comes as Israel wraps up weeks of preparations for a pre-announced attack on Iran in response to Tehran’s barrage of rocket attacks that hit Israel on October 1 .
According to Axios, the documents detail measures taken in recent days at several Israeli air bases, including the transfer of advanced munitions in preparation for an imminent attack on Iran. The documents also contain reports of detailed preparations by Israel’s drone units for the attack.
The Middle East Spectator Telegram channel, which released the documents, said it had obtained the documents from an anonymous source in the US intelligence community.
